This piece was inspired from the Uncharted the lost legacy environments. I love creating this kind of doors, entry points. I created this for my reel and also kind of my first using Unreal Engine 5.3 environment. Currently I am playing the game and I really got inspired by the Western Ghats of how detailed they are. So this was my first try to create something similar but still adding my style and look to it. I also loved the look of the Gold in the architecture, at the treasures sequence in the game. So I kind of included that style for my architecture pieces. Over all I wanted to create a place where the player will come to heal, some kind of Sacred place to heal from wounds, cuts, dense forest with medical herbs. The area also have of similar kind of feel to Ajanta & Ellora caves in Maharashtra, India. All these things are back in my head while I was creating. I will expanding this level and will try to create a whole area.
All the Architecture models are created in modular fashion so that I can create different parts of cave area. The textures were used from Megascan & Textures.com, including the foliage textures. As we can’t do vertex paint in unreal enginr 5, so I created Decals and placed all around. For the cliff I create only 2 pieces and placed it all around the environment. Every asset was created first the base in Maya the sculpted in Zbrush, baked in Marmoset and texture painted in Substance Painter 3D. For the trees and the roots I used Speedtree. The pottery props are created in Maya as a base then sculpted a trim sheet which was used to design the pottery and used material function to create variation base on their placements. Not all, but the architecture models are in quads as it really helps later down the line while UVing them keeping things neat and clean and easy to add or remove edges manually if we want to. For the moss there were decals and material functions so that it stays on the top of any objects. For the water it’s a simple plane with material function and a post processing for the underwater look. There was no color grading done in the post processing nor in the camera. Definitely lot to improve in the next one, till then hope you like this one.
Enjoy!
